Crawl in, wrap up, stay warm. This innovative design has proved to be a favorite for cool summer nights in camp, replacing a restrictive mummy-style bag. The absence of zippers and the self-packing design makes it a lightweight alternative to a traditional summerweight bag. Rated to 40°F.

    SEEING DOUBLE DUTY!
    Jan 14, 2025

Excellent lightweight sleeping bag. So far, I find myself wrapping up in it to watch TV on cold nights. Only issue so far is that my 14 year old rescue dog Blaze likes it as well . He has moderately chewed one corner of it, causing down leaks and requiring repair with Tenacious Tape!

Perfect for my son's sport trips
    Nov 11, 2024

My son sleeps hot and has to pack light for small Alaska bush planes. The squirrel beats his usual blanket by far and takes up little space compared to a sleeping bag.

    Pretty darn versatile!!
    May 19, 2024

I get why this is categorized as a sleeping bag, but its really a quilt with a foot box. And it's really cool. I now carry it in my carry-on backpack when traveling (especially in the winter, when flight delays are more frequent). Pair it with a lightweight inflatable pad, and you can sleep really comfortably if stuck in an airport. Also opens wide to work as a great quilt if hotel room is cold. When backpacking, use it inside of a bivy bag and it works really well as a layered system. The bivy helps retain the warmth and adds a lot to the comfort range. I do wish that EB would dial back the branding a bit. It has a lot of logos on it.

    Squirrel Soars!
    Aug 25, 2023

Scored the Squirrel a couple of years ago and it exceeded my expectations. The color appealed and still does. It is useful for traveling (covers two seat mates) and in cooler hotel rooms. It compacts nicely and I love the hood and foot cubby. I also use it for winter work travel when I get chilled. I love my Flying Squirrel and you will too once you invest. Happy flying!

    Absolutely Wonderful Light Sleeping Bag
    Oct 20, 2022

Super light for backpacking in summer, and just thick enough to keep warm at night. I even use it on my bed sometimes. I love this product.

In love with this sleeping bag.
    Aug 5, 2022

I bought a flying squirrel sleeping bag about 3 years ago for camping. It's ideal for 3 seasons. Very versatile. Sleep on top and wrap or cover with. Cozy but not confining. I've actually slept every night for the past three years with it in my bed because I love it so much. I especially love the foot box.and the hood. It's my blankie! No sign of water yet.

    Love this bag
    Nov 24, 2017

I love this sleeping bag for summer use. I paid a seamstress to did add wide red velcro in strategic places so that I could keep the bag closed when I toss and turn. I have added the velcro in two places in paralell for a loose fit and a tighter fit. I don't understand why no attaching devices were added to this wonderful bag. Velcro must be added in two different parallel places to keep the bag closed. Velcro at one spot will not work. The bag will gap if only one velcro attachment point is added.

    Fantastic sleeping bag idea
    Oct 24, 2016

I bought this bag on a whim for a backpacking trip in the Smokies and it fulfilled all my needs and more. Less restrictive than a mummy bag, and super lightweight and compressible, this bag kept me warm for nights in the low 40s and packed nicely into my pack. Would highly recommend. Looking forward to seeing a version for even lower temperatures in the future

Nice product. It's easy to regulate your temp when sleeping. Probably not good for cold weather but good for te other three seasons.

    FANTASTIC!
    Jul 5, 2016

This is a super bag. I've now used it on fishing trips, up at our cabin and even at home (wife keeps the air conditioning on at all times). It's very versatile - if warm outside, use it open, or just as a cover. If it's chilly, wrap yourself up in it. I love mine and now my wife wants one.

    Excellent Summer Bag!
    Jul 3, 2016

I used this bag for the first time at a Dual Sport Motorcycle gathering in Plain Washington in June. Packing on a motorcycle requires using items that consume minimal space and the Flying Squirrel was perfect for a early summer trip. Temperatures overnight were down to the mid 40's and I was very comfortable with this bag. With several more summer trips planned this is the bag I'll be using again and again.

This is super fun design - haven't tried it in action yet and can't wait. For what it is- it's very heavy- not an ultralight bag but fun.

Keep yer' nuts warm in the Flying Squirrel
    May 20, 2017

Overall I like this bag. I do wish the footbox was wider or had the ability to open or unfold. I may try some adhesive Velcro strips to help keep the top part of the bag closed when I toss & turn. The hood folds out of the way nicely when not needed, and holds a pillow in place either way.

    Aug 11, 2016

A Friend bought me this and I really enjoy it. It is a go to bag in the summer. I just wish it had a bit more down. It can get a little chilly around 40 degrees. Then it would be a great value for the money. It has held up well and will be used for years to come I am sure. If you are looking for a summer only bag, this is great one to have. I like that it can be used as a blanket or you can wrap up in it if it gets colder.

Add a zipper and it will be perfect
    May 8, 2016

I bought the Flying Squirrel sleeping bag for 3 season use. I am going light in my old age so this is an addition to use with my Warbonnet hammock. I am 6ft, 210 lbs and its plenty big. I've had it 3 months and used it twice, down to 45-50 degrees. Its a great compact and warm bag but as the nylon is slippery it comes open while sleeping as there is no zipper. So before the second trip, I bought a 48 inch zipper and attached it with E6000 fabric glue. As the bag is so roomy, I actually added half of a second zipper so I can overlay the top to two layers thick. It is like a mummy bag for me when I use the second zipper (which I don't mind). I would have used a longer zipper but 48 inch was all the store had; a 54" or 60 inch would be better to close up the neck but I usually have a fleece pullover handle if needed. The E6000 worked great but I had to use a 10" board and some small brads to stake down the bag and used brads on the zipper too while the glue dried as the bag edge is cut on a curve. I did it one side at a time, and yes for the second zipper I nailed through the down tubes = there are no feathers coming out, sort of self-repairing. The foot pocket is not closed tight but it works for me. I am sure EB could do a better job with the zipper(s) and maybe they will. I haven't needed the double layer on top as yet. Overall, its an interesting design for search and rescue as you can stand and wrap it around you but with the added zipper it becomes all purpose.

    Great bag, smells like chemicals
    Feb 5, 2016

I bought this because my feet always get cold when I snug with my short eddie bauer down throw. I have slept in it for a week now. I washed it by hand prior to use and noticed a smell in the wash basin. It took a night to remember that smell, from last year's snow cave trip with my Stormdown -30 bag. It's the down treatment. I will wash again and maybe look at adding some Nikwax to shield the smell. I would like to get a peek at the MSDS sheet if it could be made available. I gave it a 4 star because of the smell. All in all it is a good bag for mild temps. Maybe a colder rated one for us too?

    Sep 1, 2024

I bought this for a variety of reasons...packs small, 850 down, opens easily and is less restrictive than a sleeping bag. I've used it in temps down near 50F backpacking and was pretty chilled all night. For 850 down fill it's not that insulated. The other issue is it constantly falls open unless you hold it closed at all times while sleeping. I love the idea of it for summer backpacking, but it may be better used for hammock camping or travel and in much warmer temps than the 40F minimum rating.

    Not much fill
    Feb 8, 2024

EB, could you have put any less fill in this sleeping bag? I wanted this bag for fast and light trips but unfortunately this bag seems too lightweight for a comfortable sleeping at 50 degrees. It will be useful as a liner with a 3-season bag for winter or a nap on the couch in a cool house.

Flying squirrel sleeping bag its because you freeze your?
    Sep 11, 2023

I want to start by saying I am a huge Eddie Bauer fan and have tons of their products, however this is the first product in almost 50 years that I was disappointed in the design and rating on this bag. IMO this bag would only be useful in 20 degree Celsius or warmer. The design of the bag doesn't allow for you to sleep on your side because the sides fall open and also exposes your backside to the cold, which is only one layer vs the front which has two. I do have to take some blame because I didn't test the bag before heading out to the the WestCoast trail but sadly I will be returning this to the store for a refund.

Love the way it looked, but the foot box was several inches from the top of the flap. It let in way to much air and left my feet freezing. I used it in my room and was still freezing.
