In an effort to make lasting, impactful change in our industry, and as part of our continued commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, Eddie Bauer has partnered with NativesOutdoors – a Native American-owned media and consulting collective.
We acknowledge that some Eddie Bauer product designs and names have been appropriated from Indigenous artists, peoples and cultures. To ensure we respectfully honor and elevate the work of Native and Indigenous peoples, NativesOutdoors is evaluating the designs currently used on Eddie Bauer gear and apparel, consulting with us on global Indigenous artwork for all future products, and helping us to make reparations to these communities and artists.
With help from NativesOutdoors, we have identified the first steps to enacting change within our organization.
• Acknowledge all existing products on our website that are inspired by or feature appropriated Indigenous designs.
• Rename products that employ the use of Native and Indigenous words.
• Establish new internal processes for reviewing future artwork and designs for our products.
• Collaborate with Indigenous artists to license original designs and artwork to feature in future product.
We know this is just the start, and we look forward to expanding our efforts.
NativesOutdoors is a media and consulting collective working at the intersection of Indigenous peoples and the outdoor industry. Founded in 2017, their mission is simple: they are in business to empower indigenous communities through the products they create and the clients they serve.
